Rockroach are chocolate-brown insects in colouration. Their dark eyes are bulbous, and designed to let them scuttle through dark, cave-like environments. Rockroach's mandibles are short and curled towards their face. These are used to cut or hold food. Rockroach's thorax are rounded, almost like a puffy scarf surrounding their heads. The likeness ends there, as their thorax are made from cave pebbles, stuck together with saliva. This layer of rock is a shield, protecting one of the most vulnerable parts of their body.
The abdomen of Rockroach are softer brown. Unlike their stone midsections, Rockroach build these from mud and clay. The mixture eventually hardens and breaks, giving their abdomen the crackled appearance. Like all roaches, Rockroaches have wings tucked beneath their exoskeleton. They can flutter a few feet off the ground and stir up cave dust in a fight.
Gender Differences[]
Rockroach have no gender differences.
Behavior[]
Rockroach are known to curl into balls and lay still on cave floors. Their outer shells are tough, and protect them from stronger predators in the cave. Rockroach can stay curled for days, and even roll around in this position. Because of this, they are easily mistaken for boulders. Even when kicked around or hit with a move like Rock Smash, they will not budge.
Rockroach delight in following trainers around dark caves without being noticed. Most travelers learn to tell the difference between a genuine stone and a Rockroach. Others continue to mix them up, and may use Rockroach as a landmark while attempting to navigate a cavern. This can give travelers the impression that a cave is endless, or an impossible, repetitious maze.
Habitat[]
Rockroach are cave-dwellers. They love the damp and the moldy, but are not opposed to hitching a ride in an unsuspecting trainer's backpack.
