Cindy is the canon name of the female protagonist in Pokémon Umbra. Her counterparts are Cole (male) and Carter (non-binary). If you choose to play as Cindy, then both Cole and Carter do not exist in the Region.
In the Game[]
Role[]
If Cindy is selected as the player character, her journey starts in Cadere Town in Vereshad. She chooses one of the three Starter Pokémon options from Professor Sakura. Cindy goes on to gather the eight Badges from the Vereshad Region, beat the Pokémon League, and defeat her cousin, Mariana, to become the new Champion.
Background[]
Cindy grew up constantly compared to her two successful cousins, Mariana and Martin. Her parents were dismissive of her own achievements and instead focused their attention on her cousins. Cindy decided to move out due to her parents' pressure, and while in search of a way to make a living, Professor Sakura offered the possibility of becoming a Pokémon Trainer. With a little persuasion from Professor Sakura, she decided to finally make a name for herself and started her own Pokémon Journey.
Personality[]
Cindy has an easy-going personality that is able to match the player's personality through in-game dialogue choices. She starts her adventure with the intent of proving her parents wrong about her own abilities and ends up finding her own meaning to life along the way.
Relationships[]
Cindy's in-game dialogue choices influence her relationships with some characters and can change the ending of the game.
Professor Sakura[]
Professor Sakura became the town's Pokémon Professor before the start of the game. She watched Cindy grow up over the last decade and wanted to see her become a Pokémon Trainer. Professor Sakura kept pushing Cindy until she finally decided to start her journey. The two are close, mainly because Professor Sakura listens to Cindy about her family problems and wants to see her grow as a person. Professor Sakura truly believes Cindy can become a better trainer than her cousins, and she secretly hopes Cindy will come back to help her in the lab after her journey.
Damien[]
Cindy grew up in the same town as Damien, but they did not play a lot as children. She is able to deepen their friendship throughout the game using the in-game dialogue choices. If Damien's friendship level is high, Cindy learns about his family, goals, and personal struggles.
Eva[]
Cindy meets Eva when they are receiving their Pokémon from Professor Sakura. At first, their relationship is curt and business-like, but over time they become friendly with each other. If Eva's friendship level is high, Cindy learns about her personality, goals, and personal struggles.
Mariana[]
Mariana is Cindy's older cousin and Martin's older sister. They have lived in the same town all their lives. Cindy's parents tend to compare the two, which causes Cindy to be reserved around Mariana. Mariana always sticks up for Cindy, especially around her brother. She views Cindy as a younger sister and wants to see her succeed in life, and she sometimes pushes Cindy in the hopes of helping her. While Cindy does enjoy spending time with Mariana, she often feels buried in Mariana's shadow. Mariana left their hometown to become the region's Pokémon Champion before the start of the game.
Martin[]
Martin is Cindy's older cousin and Mariana's younger brother. They have lived in the same town all their lives. Cindy's parents tend to compare the two, which causes Cindy to be reserved around Martin. Martin often feels inferior to his older sister, and he takes his frustration out on Cindy by belittling her. He does want to see Cindy succeed in life, but ultimately he tries to stay one rung ahead of her on their family's social ladder. Martin left their hometown to become the region's Pokémon Champion before the start of the game. He did not become the Champion, but he did become the Fairy Gym Leader.
Hollow[]
Hollow is an odd character that Cindy keeps running into. He appears randomly to help her throughout her Pokémon journey. They have a friendly relationship throughout the game, and he seems to have an interest in Cindy's personal life. If Hollow's friendship level is high, Cindy learns about his motivations, goals, and personal struggles.
Team Radiance[]
Cindy crosses paths with members of Team Radiance often throughout her Pokémon journey. Team Radiance views Cindy as a nuisance and strive to remove her from their schemes. Cindy typically foils their plots as she continues her journey.
